Napping with Totoro is our classic format — matte card, firm cut, artwork chosen to reward a long sitting. Ghibli signs off on the colour for these, which is why the greens sit where the film put them. At 500 pieces it is a weekend set, three to five hours split across a couple of sittings.

Turn every piece face up before joining anything and pull the edges as you go. The sorting pass feels like dead time and saves more than any other habit. We list it beside the other jigsaw sets so you can compare sizes before you choose.

    My favorite puzzle so far

I love Ghibli and started doing puzzles to relax recently. This one was the perfect mix of difficult (in the leafy parts) and easy (in the characters), I could put it down for a couple days then come back to work on it without getting too frustrated.
